ABCマートさんからの『提供する靴を使って作品を制作してほしい』との依頼を受け、Reebokの「Pump Omni Zone II」を使って『コミュニケーション』をテーマにした作品を制作した。靴は元来、人と会いにいくために必ず必要な道具として重宝されてきた(人間は足を使って人と出会ってきた)が、特にコロナ禍以降になると、人と会うことは画面越しに相手の顔を見るという行為に置き換わっていった。このテーマを中心に、靴を履いた二つの画面が向かい合って会話しているような立体作品を制作した。

I received a request from ABC Mart to "create a work using the shoes we provide", and used Reebok's 'Pump Omni Zone II' to create a work themed around "communication". Shoes have always been treasured as a necessary tool for meeting people (humans have met people using their feet), but especially since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, meeting people has been replaced with the act of looking at the other person's face across a screen. With this theme at the center, I created a three-dimensional work that looks like two screens wearing shoes are facing each other and having a conversation.

サルバドール・ダリの墓であり美術館であるフィゲラスを訪れた時から、"もし意味が美術を支配する時代が終わり、存在が意味よりも美として認められるときが再び訪れたら？"という考えが頭から離れない。そもそも意味は存在に付随するべく存在したはずなのに、今や存在は意味のためにある。このゲームを始めた先駆者は素晴らしい業績を残したが、たった今現在までそのゲームを我々が延々と疑うことなく続ける必要はあったのだろうか？

日本仏教では烏枢沙摩明王はトイレの仏様として有名だが、そもそもは全てのものを焼き尽くす神、インド神話のアグニから派生した明王だ。今回の作品は"トイレの仏"である烏枢沙摩明王をモチーフにしている。ただの”トイレの仏”だ。

Ever since I visited Figueras, which serves both as Salvador Dali's tomb and museum, I can't shake off the thought, "What if the era when meaning dominates art ends, and a time returns when existence is recognized as beauty more than meaning?" Originally, meaning should have existed as something that accompanies existence, but now existence is for the sake of meaning. The pioneers who started this game have left remarkable achievements, but did we really need to continue this game without doubt until just now?

In Japanese Buddhism, Ususama Myouou is famous as the Buddha of the toilet, but originally, it is a Wisdom King derived from Agni, the god that burns everything in Indian mythology. This work is themed around Ususama Myouou, the "Toilet Buddha". It's just a "Toilet Buddha".
